Perfect for kids party bags

Kids Party Bags
To give or not to give kids party bags, that is indeed the question that hovers in many a parents mind when planning their child's party. Throwing a birthday party for kids these days is no small feat, in some circles there is much competition and pressure to throw bigger and better events and as a result the cost can spiral.

For others the pressure to please their child is self inflicted because lets face it, they are so adorable and we want to make their special day special indeed. But where do you draw the line?
Many of my subscribers have posed this question to me, "where do I draw the line" and in discussing this topic one of the most debatable 'must have party item' that comes up is kids party bags, also known as a loot bag or goody bag

My answer is firstly that no-one should feel pressured to provide anything out of obligation to others, and in saying that I am also saying one needs to consider the reason why we traditionally hand out party bags in the first place. By considering this you may find that the gift (as so often said) is in the giving.

As a children's party expert I take it upon myself to know the origins of many celebratory traditions, but the origins of the party bag remains somewhat elusive, so I will share with you the reasons why I myself always send my little guests home with a special memento of my child's special day, emphasis on the word 'memento'.
As already mentioned, the gift is in the giving, and to receive that wonderful sense of delight when you give a gift you must first put some thought into it. A plastic bag full of lollies and plastic junk is I believe the 'obligatory' party bag which should be avoided. Of course, if you have no problem with this type of gift bag then give them away to your hearts content.

But for those who feel somewhat reluctant to spend money in this way, who feel more lollies is a bad idea or who simply are watching their pennies then the always better alternative is a party memento, something that is a keeper and will serve to remind your little ones guest of the special party they attended.

Cellophane Party Bags at children's birthday parties

Cellophane Party Bags

If the Bride To Be knows there is something embarrassing in the bag her natural reaction will be to tear off the packaging and hide the One of the great things about cellophane party bags is that they cannot be torn open easily. If you are using a cellophane party bag then make sure you make the most of it. The wrapping itself will get people talking and guessing.

By doing this the excitement will start from the moment the Bride To Be is asked to open the gift. For example if one of the guests sent embarrassing pictures from a holiday, wrap them in a page from a travel brochure, preferably with a "hunky" man prominently displayed. When it comes to wrapping the gifts, use your imagination. These will all add to the excitement of the hen party and act as a focal point during and after the meal.

As well as the gifts from friends you should also include some typical hen party paraphernalia such as "hotty whistles", l - plates and dare games. The trick to getting the most from this method of presenting the gifts is to put effort into wrapping the gifts. The genuine gift and the "memory gift" should be kept separate. Wrap each gift individually.

So what is the alternative? There is absolutely nothing wrong with this method, however by doing it this way an opportunity to involve everyone and generate some excitement is lost. Combine all the presents in one box and present them to the Bride To Be at some point during the hen party. Basically there are two options.

The next part of the job was to wrap the gifts and get them ready for presentation and that is where the printed cellophane bags come in. One small genuine gift and one gift that would provoke a reaction, such as an old photo, a poem, a shared memory, anything that would evoke a happy or embarrassing memory. They were all asked to send two gifts.

Well in advance of the party the "Head Hen" contacted all the Bride To Be's friends and family, even those who could not attend the hen party.
Having attended quite a few hen parties myself one particular method of presenting the presents worked really well, this is how it was organised.

There is no traditional standard, it is totally up to yourself. Presents for the Bride To Be can range from small items of jewelry to a life size inflatable man. Alternatively you may have pulled together a party pack for all the hens.

Perhaps you are organizing a selection of gifts for the Bride to Be and are looking for ideas on how to present them. Over the past year or so there has been an upsurge in everything to do with hen parties, including the presentation of gifts at them. However that is not the only occasion at which they can be used.  In the last few posts I have focused on the use of printed cellophane party bags at children's birthday parties.

The output from the craft activity can be incorporated into The craft activity does not need to be complicated but make sure you have adult help available.

Older kids tend to be more self sufficient. This can be a great idea but I would not do it with children under the age of as they can need a great deal of help. Some parents include a craft activity within the party.

For example at one party my son attended the going home present was a pirate mug with some pencils and erasers wrapped in a plain cellophane party bag and tied with balloon ribbon. The loot bag should be consistent with the theme. For example pirates and princess parties are very popular.

Nearly all parties are based on a particular theme. Once you have decided whether you are going to make or buy the going home presents the following is my advice. Be yourself.

My advise is do what you are comfortable with. Some parents are talented when it comes to arts and crafts whilst other prefer the pre-filled option. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. With a little effort and for very little cost you can organise unique and attractive loot bags that the guests will love.

When it comes to organising a birthday party there are many things to consider such as the number of guests and location, but in this article I will focus solely on the topic of party bags. They are landmark events.  Everyone loves a party, especially children.
